IMT Modular Partitions Ltd. was founded 12 years ago by Shay Sekler, interior construction specialist who understood firsthand the limitations of offices designed with walls covered in sheet rock. Because of this performance gap and findings from extensive research, the two decided that a new design for glass office partitions and other movable wall systems could revolutionize the market. Traditional walls evoked privacy, but little else in bustling office environments that experienced constant human traffic but also demanded openness and collaboration. What the market needed was not only flexibility and durability, but portability — the means to easily take down and reposition walls as needs changed. In 2001, the duo hit on the idea for the IMT Wall, a fully modular and customizable system of modern room dividers that could blend in with other furniture components or office decor. The two decided to go big, and the IMT Wall debuted in Toronto at IIDEX 2002 where it earned the prestigious Gold Award in the systems furniture category.
